Blood donation


What is blood and why do we need blood?
Blood is a liquid material which circulates throughout our body and made by bone marrow.  It carries nutrients, oxygen and minerals required by our body along with it.  Without blood life is not possible.

Types of Blood Group: A, B, AB, and O (both Positive and Negative)

Which blood group can donate whom?




Why should we donate blood
Blood contains many life-saving components that can help to treat different illnesses and injuries.
To help people in emergency and save somebody’ life.
To date there is no artificial replacement for bloods

What do you get from blood donation?
1.       Blood donors are life savers. Blood donation gives a proud feeling of touching someone's life in such a beautiful way. It's an experience that no words can define.
2.       By donating blood as it reduces the chances of ischemic heart diseases (beginning of heart problems) as frequent donations reduce the accumulated and unwanted iron load from the body.
3.       In your emergencies as well, there will be high chances of getting blood.
4.        By keeping the blood line flowing, you will greatly contribute towards a healthier, happier society.
5.       Do remember, any one may require blood any time including ourselves and our dear ones.

Who and when do we need a blood?
Severe accident with lots of blood loss
When people are suffering from bone marrow disease and cannot produce blood
When surgeries related to heart to meant to be done.
During pregnancy
During delivery
During blood related disease

Who can donate blood?
A person of any sex from the age from seventeen to sixty can donate blood. Blood donors should be of more than 45 kg and is not suffering from any critical disease or not taking any medication at the present.

How often can you donate blood and how much can you donate?
One can donate blood maximum  four times a year and for females it is recommended to donate blood only two times a year.  One can donate blood at maximum of 450 ml at one time..  In Nepal around 350 ml will be taken in one pouch.

How long does it take to replenished the donate blood:
Your body can replenish this volume within 24 hours and it takes 21 days for the blood cell count to return to normal level.

World blood donation day
World blood donor day Day 2018 celebrated by greece on June 14th with a slogan “blood connects us all”.  The day has a “Share life, Give blood”.  Celebrates to thank voluntary blood donors and acknowledge them and encourage blood donation and new donors.
